Recent Book Reads...

I finished the following books recently...

I find that I have wanted to read interesting but not too long books at the beginning of the summer. First up was "The Headmaster's Wife" which was a quick read and I did figure out what was happening but thought it was good. I think the loss of loved ones affect people in different ways. I would recommend this book to people who like to read a lot but if you are only a few books a year person you may not be into it as much.

"Behind the Beautiful Forevers" is a non-fiction book. First let me say that I have a fascination with India and if a book is set in India and gives me a glimpse into their culture, daily lives, etc. then I usually love it. This book was good and I found it interesting to see the dynamic of the lives that are portrayed...but I felt I needed more. I wanted to know how to find out about the people today, etc. This book is for those who enjoy non-fiction and want to read about people in extreme poverty and their daily lives.

"Euphoria" is a book about 3 anthropologists in the 1930s and is loosely based on the life of Margaret Mead. I found this book fascinating. I actually wanted it to be longer. I loved the descriptions of their lives and the work they were doing. This was my favorite out of the ones above by far and I would recommend.

Taking Norah to Camp Seafarer...

Last week I tried to soak up every minute with Norah before she left for camp. We did the beach daily where we collected shells, she rode the waves, and just enjoyed being outside.

We played lots of games. My mom actually found an old backgammon game so Norah and I played that a lot. We are all about games that take only one or two people to play.

We both read a lot...which was awesome.

We even celebrated with friends on our last night in town. Then we were off on Saturday to New Bern to spend the night and attend an ice cream social for the camp. As all good Hoppe road trips start with a car selfie!

We made a stop in Wilmington to eat lunch and walk around and then once we got to New Bern...we checked into hotel (which a ton of campers were staying)...and then headed to dinner at Persimmons which was awesome. The view and the food was great Of course it was HOT as you know what and we were all sweating like beasts...but worth it!

Then we headed to the ice cream social. It was chaotic as there were lots of kids but really cute event. I even ran into some people I know which was wild. :)

Saturday night I was quite anxious and teary thinking about leaving Norah the next day. However, the next day came and we arrived at camp...Norah was beyond happy and excited! She went into her cabin and settled right in and was ready for us to leave so she could start her camp experience. This made me super happy! However, I didn't take a lot of pics that day because I just got caught up in the action of unpacking, etc.

The camp was beautiful!

This is Norah's cabin

This is the view from her cabin...yep...that will be nice to wake up to!

We left and drove back home. I missed her the moment we pulled away. I know she is having a blast though but it is hard not to talk to her! I miss having her to hang out with all week but look forward to seeing the camp post some pics and catching a glimpse of her!

Games...

I love finding out about various things in other blogs...here is a game I saw on a blog that we recreated at home...

Then on the same blog we made a few Thaumatropes which have been cool. (Trust me it works!)

We also picked these two games up recently and have loved playing them. Both are awesome!

Of course we have had more beach time. It is a given... :)

Had a friend come visit tonight and it was so nice to chat it up! Now to see what the weather will do tomorrow!

Weekend in review...

The beach never gets old. It is amazing every time. Friday we went out there in the afternoon celebrating the end of 2nd grade. I will say that Norah has cried a few times saying how much she misses school and seeing all her friends. Sweet girl. :(

A friend of mine was out there who entertained Norah with a soccer ball and Spike Ball...she loved that!

Friday ended with fun at a friend's house! Saturday came and we needed a low key day as Norah and I both felt we might be getting a little summer cold. Lunch Saturday was at the Big Tuna in Georgetown where you can sit on the water and enjoy the view. Loved having family time and running into some friends.

Saturday night Norah went to her cousin's birthday party and bowled away! Then Sunday brought 8 am Service at Church, a visit with my mom and Denny before he had to head back, and back to the beach for Norah and me. I have to say that I was not feeling well at this point but did feel that it was just a little cold so wasn't too worried. We had to get Norah a new Boogie Board as the old one had split.
Then we ended our weekend with eating crabs my aunt had caught. It was delicious and the view was beautiful.

The night ended when s'mores were made at the fire pit!

It was a busy and fun weekend!

Friday Five...

1. Norah's official last day of 2nd grade...I'm still in shock I have a child that will be in third grade. Where has time gone?! Here are some pictures of her on her last day of 2nd grade... and you can click here to see Norah on her first three days of school for 2nd grade...you have to scroll down.

2. So summer means I read and watch things on Amazon/Netflix...recently I watched "Outlander" Season 1 Volume 1 (first 8 episodes) and I LOVED it. It is awesome and I cannot wait until Season 1 Volume 2 comes out.

The premise sounds strange but it is so interesting, the acting is on the money, and let's be honest...Sam Heughan who plays Jamie...is HOT! ;)

3. Now I am watching the old HBO series "Rome" and I found it interesting in the fact that it is trying to portray the actual real people and events that existed in Rome during that time frame. Great acting but definitely a little on the graphic/gruesome side so it is not for everyone.

4. Saw "Tomorrowland" yesterday and the previews make it seem like a kids movie which of course then made Norah want to see it. However, it is kinda an adult topic and way too long for a kid movie. So I would pass on this one...

5. Starting to get Norah's stuff together for camp...eeekk! I cannot believe she is going to overnight camp. She is so excited about it but I'm the one who is worried sick! I know I will miss her more than anything!

Summer Reading Wish Lists...

With Summer here...that means I am ready to be able to read more. Norah told me she wanted to make a list of all the books she wanted to read this summer so I told her I would do the same!

Here is a pic of her list...

I think it is amazing that she loves to read. She actually is asking for some of the books for her birthday and then we will hit up the library a lot this summer.

Okay so here is a random selection of books that I would like to read this summer...

I actually just finished "The Hurricane Sisters" this week and it was an easy read. It was fun to read a book that took place in Charleston and knowing all the places that were talking about.

Next up is "Behind the Beautiful Forevers"...I had borrowed this book from a friend awhile back but returned it because I never got around to reading it. I picked it up for a couple of dollars used at the local library so now I am going to finally read it. I've heard great things about it.

"The Namesake" is a book that I own and has been sitting in my TBR pile for awhile so hope to get to it this summer.

"The Rumor" and "Circling the Sun" are books that will be released this summer so anxious to see the reaction to them.

The rest are random books that I have heard about from different sources so look forward to getting my hands on them! Plus I still have several other books in my TBR pile that hopefully I will get to read soon too. Any books I should add or any comments about the ones above?

Norah's end of 2nd Grade...

I cannot believe Norah finishes 2nd grade this week! She is growing up so fast! Since I am out of school I got to go to her end of the year party which was an ice cream party! She has had a really good class again this year with great kids and an awesome teacher! Thank you Mrs. Bankert for all you have done!

Today they had the awards where she got Terrific Kid and Principal's Honor Roll for the entire year! All As! So proud of her!

My mom is in town so she came to it too!

I sure love my Norah!

She has two half days left at school and then she is out for the summer! Cannot wait!
