Randomness...

1. First, I still haven't figured the new "Blogger" out so pictures and formatting are crazy. Maybe I will look into that this weekend. Anyway...Eric Church "Springsteen" is one of my favorite songs right now...oh man, how sometimes I wish I was 17.... :)

2. Jeff's dad is still not doing well and this week may be his last week with us. It gets you thinking about your own life and death of a parent. I am lucky in that my parents are still here but I found these quotes that say a lot...

Your children need your presence more than your presents. ~Jesse Jackson

It's not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself. ~Joyce Maynard

Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you. ~Robert Fulghum

I always have a "quote of the week" for my students so I saw these and thought about parenting... and how we want so much for our own child(ren).

3. Speaking of parenting...my niece and nephew are both headed to college in August and so much has changed since I even went...the days of leaving a message on a white board on your dorm door are gone and replaced with text messages...I am sure.... but it got me thinking about Norah and her future life.

When you ask her what she wants to be when she grows up...she says, "Teacher, like you mommy." But truth be told...I would love her to say "Peace Corps" or "Seminary School"...I know I want Norah to be whatever she wants to be...whatever she is passionate about...but I hope she wants to do good in the world...I am starting to think that being a good person, whatever that may mean, may be the most important thing a person can do these days.

Well I guess that is my random post for the day....off the tackle the rest of the week!
