Another week in review and a couple randoms...

Man...another amazing summer week! (I actually posted some of these pics on Facebook during the week so I would not forget all of them.) We so loved having Christie and her girls stay with us this week and having Julie in town with her family was such a bonus too! I loved catching up with my friends and Norah loved having playmates. I miss you ladies already!

Then we had the 3rd Annual Pawleys Island Fest and we have gone each of the three years. Norah had a blast (as always) having her face painted, jumping in the "jumpy houses," participating in the hula hoop contest and even doing the limbo! My aunt and mom were able to go too...so it is turning into a great yearly tradition.

Friday was Norah's 7th birthday party celebration which was at the local bowling alley...she loved having everyone there together! I wish I had taken more pictures but did not think about it at first for some reason. Her real birthday is next week so I still have some more time with my 6 year old girl (before she is really 7... Eek!)...I feel like she is growing up so fast!

Saturday came and Norah actually did not feel so great so we took it easy. I am sure she was worn out from our week and needed a rest day. Then today I woke up not feeling so great (I guess I got her germs)...boo!

We met my mom, step-dad, and aunt for lunch at Bisqit today before my step-dad had to head back home. With all we had go one this past week, it felt like I hadn't really seen them yet!

Then later in the day we met some folks and their kiddos to watch the USA soccer game. We had a great time! It was fun to meet new people, chat with everyone, and Norah loved having so many kids to play with too! Thanks for the Papadea's for inviting us!

The traditional family car selfie!

Norah and her friends during the soccer game...group hug!

Randoms of the week...

The dogs were sleeping at the foot of the bed and they are cute (they also enjoyed all the attention they got when we had Christie and the girls in town this week,) I got the fabulous book Emma for only a $1 (I love Jane Austen!), I finally finished The West Wing (the earlier seasons were my favorite but loved all of it...so recommend anyone to watch it!), and I saw this pic of Keri Russell on People.com and I love, love her dress!

Now what will this week be like...whew! :)

Week in Review...

This was Norah's first full week home and out of school and it has been awesome! We have gone on the beach everyday (some days with just us but others with friends), reorganized and painted her playroom, saw the movie "Maleficent," Norah went on a trip to the pool with a Church group, had Ellie sleepover, I went to a birthday night out for a friend, and even a birthday lunch out for another friend. Today my good friend Julie and her family came in town from Charlotte and then my friend Christie and her girls will be in town Monday...both are staying next week....YEAH!!!!!! I'm so excited that they will be here for a little while and Norah is so excited about playing with all the kiddos all week. I've also finished two books...so it has been a week of fabulousness for sure!

Love having Julie in town!!!

Movie: Norah really wanted to see "Maleficent" and I was not sure if it would be too scary or not. I had heard from several people with young kids that they liked it so we headed to the movies. I loved the story and thought Angelina Jolie was perfect for the part...it is my new classic way to think of Sleeping Beauty for sure! Norah said that it was happy, scary, and sad and that she liked it. So I would recommend seeing it but it is probably more for kids aged 8/9 and up unless you are like Norah and watch things like Harry Potter and Hunger Games...oops! (I totally want to dress up like Maleficent for Halloween now!)

When we left the movies...Norah was worn out from all her adventures this week...she fell asleep in the car and was still zonked out when we arrived home!

I finished reading "A Hundred Summers" and thought it was a fun summer read and would highly recommend reading it...great book if you are going on vacation...plus I love the time period it involves. I now added this book to my wish list as it is by the same author. I also finished "A Place at the Table" which started off a little different then I thought but by the end it all came together and I thought it was a good book. I loved all the Southern references!

I had a night out to celebrate Glenn's birthday at Perrones this week where another yummy cheese was consumed along with lots of vino and chit chat... :)

It was a great week and now excited for the weekend to start...awww...who am I kidding all week has felt like a long weekend?!? ;)

Monday...

Sick Child. I hate when Norah does not feel well. This past Thursday she came home from school and she was a little "off." She had a low grade fever but was still wanting to play with her friend, Ellie who had come home with us. I went to work and then met some ladies out for a drink (loved chatting with y'all!) Jeff texted me that Norah wasn't feeling well so I left to head home. Within 15 minutes of being home...Norah projectile vomited everywhere (I know, gross.) Those of you with kids know that there is nothing you can do and you feel so bad for your child because they are so miserable. Then in this time frame the worst storm hit with lighting/thunder/rain...dogs were getting freaked out...we were trying to get Norah settled and clean up the mess. It was crazy! Needless to say, it was a long night. In the early morning...Norah was just lethargic and laying on me (poor thing!)...I may look a little tired... ;)

so we watched a zillion episodes of "Jesse" while she slowly felt better. Late afternoon her fever broke and she was on the mend. Such a sweet girl and trooper! She was so disappointed that she didn't get to go to her last day of school but we are so happy that she is feeling better now!

Jeff and I have taken advantage of the HBO stuff on Amazon Prime and started watching "The Pacific" through Roku. We loved "Band of Brothers" and had watched it when it came out originally so we have enjoyed watching this miniseries and only have a couple more episodes to watch.

It now makes me want to read two of the books that the miniseries was based on: "Helmet for My Pillow" and "With the Old Breed." Gonna add those to my ever growing "wish list" on Amazon...

I did take Norah to the beach for a little bit on Saturday and Sunday afternoons as I always think the beach makes you feel better! She is such a water girl and loves riding the waves in...gotta get this girl some surf lessons!

Today is the official start of Norah's summer break and I am excited to be with her this summer!

Books, Movies, Norah and some other stuff...

So I have been on a reading kick lately...here is what I have been/currently reading...

I have to admit that I liked all of them in their own way. Obviously I cried while reading "The Fault in our Stars" but it was a touching story. "Eleanor & Park" was another YA book and I thought it was good too. Jane Green and Maddie Dawson were fun chick lit books. I found "The Paris Wife" to be quite interesting and now I wonder if I should read "Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald" or "A Moveable Feast" next. I also have read and enjoyed Sarah Addison Allen's books in the past with the touch of magic in them and "The Girl who Chased the Moon" was a perfect light read. Now I have started "A Hundred Summers" which so far is a perfect summer read! Anyway...I squeezed in some movie watching with the camping trip last weekend and some nights where everyone is asleep but me...(I don't sleep a lot!)

Of course "The Prince of Tides" is one of my all-time favorites and was due for a re-watch. I love that it is different than the book...it makes it stand alone as a movie for me. Love it! "A Promise" was good...an independent film and I love the time period it takes place in so I liked it...it is also based on a novel. I had heard different things about "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" but I really liked it. I like the quirkiness of it all and isn't it so true how people daydream about what they want to do but not a lot of people actually ever go do it! And finally saw "The Grand Budapest Hotel"...this is the definition of quirkiness. I thought it was funny and there were things that made me chuckle like the kid who is the "lobby boy" and wears a hat that just so happens to say that...so obviously I think that is hilarious. Plus love Ralph Fiennes!

Now some other stuff...I have not dried/straightened my hair all week (except I will today because I am going into work) so it has been natural (Jeff calls it "Medusa Hair") as I have naturally curly hair. It always cracks me up once people see it as I guess they never think that my hair is not straightish (is that a word?) So thanks to all of your sweet comments about the hair on Facebook! :)

Jeff and I went to Perrones last week and I ordered the Burrata...oh my! It was a ball of cheese-deliciousness and it makes me want to go back ASAP for more!

I saw this the other day and it basically explains how I get through the day...especially during the school year! Ha!

Social Media...well I tried Twitter but could never get into it so deleted that account. I'm starting to like Instagram and wonder if I should switch from blog to instagram for all my pictures. I also still like Pinterest for different ideas and of course joining Facebook has been great with moving somewhere new (hard to believe I will have lived here for two years this month...eek!) I do debate about whether making the blog private and then giving people I know the password to view it...as with Norah getting older I cannot decide about all the pictures of her on here for everyone to see. Any thoughts?

Wednesday was Norah's last full day of 1st grade. This year has been a blur and gone by so fast. Thursday and Friday are half days for her and then she is done for the year. She did receive a medal for her Accelerated Reading which I am so proud of how well she did...I love that she loves to read!

Also look at the comparison of Norah on her first day of first grade...click HERE and now look at her today! So precious!

And you need a beach pic so here is my view on Wednesday at the beach when I looked up from my book...gotta love summer!

Hello Summer!

Wow! It is hard to believe that summer is here! Last week I finished up at my school ending with a really sweet graduation of some lovely, young ladies. I know they are excited about moving on from high school to college. I wish them the best in all they do in life!!

Jeff and Norah went camping this past weekend with a Church group and sweet ole' Jeff let me off the hook! I did visit out to where they were camping for a few hours on Saturday...but otherwise...it was just me and the dogs hanging out. It was nice to unwind from the hustle and bustle of a busy school year. Here are some pics of Norah's camping adventures...

Friday night there was a huge storm and I even woke up around 3:30 am and texted Jeff to come home as I could only think about some huge limb falling on their tent! Luckily they made it through but I'm not sure they got a lot of sleep. They got home Sunday and both were quite exhausted. Norah took a shower, cuddled on the couch to use the iPad, and the next thing I know...she is out!

I watched movies, read books, had a little wine all while they were away (still reading so a book/movie post soon!) and yesterday came...Norah is back at school. That is right...Norah still has 3 full days and 2 half days of school left so I'm taking advantage to hit the beach, read, and get things ready for the summer! (This was my view yesterday!)

Also Norah is on the countdown for her birthday (in June) and her bowling party...I cannot believe she will be 7 years old!
