Books, Movies, and Randoms....

I have finished reading two books lately. One is "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry" by Rachel Joyce. I liked it but I wanted it to be even better...does that make sense? It was a good book.
Then I just finished up "Moloka'i" by Alan Brennert which was a fabulous book...a must read! It was so insightful to hear about something I knew nothing about and combining it with a great fictional story too. I really enjoyed it and hope to read some of the other books by this author.
A couple of weeks ago I watched the movie..."Anna Karenina" and really enjoyed it. I know the story lines were shortened to fit the time frame of a movie so now I want to read the book. This may be the book for Christmas break this year. (Plus...a lot of British actors are in it which is always a plus for me!)
Also the other week Jeff and I caught the end of one of my favorite "teacher" movies on TV..."Mr. Holland's Opus." I love that movie! I hope I have even a little of the impact he has on his students on my own students. A must see...I cry every time!
A couple weekends back...Glenn and I headed to Georgetown and went shopping at the new spots downtown. Such cute stores! We also got to eat at the new restaurant...ZEST...we ordered sushi and it was good but I wanted it to be even better (I so miss the sushi we got in Charlotte!) I would go again though...it is fun to sit outside in this weather at all the restaurants on the water too.

Last night we went to a fundraiser for our school and had a wonderful time! It was so much fun talking to everyone who attended and getting to hang out with all the teachers outside of school. Of course the food was phenomenal as always! Cannot beat good friends, food and fun...it is always a winning combo!

Next up is to read a book from the list of South Carolina Junior Book Award Nominees 2013-2014..."The Apothecary" by Maile Meloy. Now time to get ready for football and bed!

Happenings...

I have got to get better about taking more random pics of Norah! My phone is now smashed on the front and back of it so I think I will have to get a new one soon...especially since the camera part is kinda messed up at this point. But I did snap a pic of sweet girl when we ate at Massey's Pizza on Thursday night (you will see the bad picture quality the ole' phone is taking...beware.)

Norah also had her first 2 spelling tests and made a 100 on both and then had MAP testing for Reading and Math and scored "above grade level" on both so we were very proud of her!

Bobby Richardson came to my school on Friday and spoke during our Chapel time. It was such a great experience...he did a wonderful job of captivating the attention of all the students and adults that were there. Pretty amazing!
And Coach Jordan got me a baseball signed! Thanks Coach Jordan!
Well I have been antsy to do something lately and I contemplated a Charlotte trip this weekend but since I have an event on Sunday to attend for school...I thought the timing might not work (but I hope to visit all the Charlotte ladies soon...miss you all!) So after a girls night couldn't happen...my mom offered to let Norah spend the night Friday with them. So I dropped her off about 5:30 and Jeff and I got ready and headed to eat at Wahoos in Murrells Inlet. The weather was fabulous! After we hung out at the bar and then sat down to eat (wine and sushi was good!)...we walked on the boardwalk and came upon a private party and this band. It was so fun! They called everyone on the boardwalk that stopped to listen/dance/sing (there was a big group!) the "party crashers" but no one seemed to mind. The band was the Paul Grimshaw Band and they were awesome! They played a great mix of covers! After that we headed back into Wahoos for a second and I ran into an ole' sorority sister...hey Lindsay!...which was fun! It was a great night out! And of course...I made Jeff take the date night "selfie" in the car...again lovely pic quality from the phone... :)
Well now today Jeff has taken Becky and her hubby on a boat ride for their anniversary and I am about to pick Norah up for a day full of errands!

Weekend in Review...

This past Friday...Jeff and I got home and both declared exhaustion! So we watched a movie Friday night..."Now You See Me"
We both liked it and I found out they are planning a sequel which I am excited to see!

Saturday...Jeff helped out Amanda in our neighborhood pick up food bags for the local food pantry in the morning while Norah and I ran errands. Then we all went for some birthday action at Amanda's house and then the football games were watched! This week we cheered on Georgia and loved that they won! (I also have been watching some of the US Open Tennis but most of the matches I have seen were not that close.)
I also painted a table Saturday night and again on Sunday night and probably again tomorrow night...I am following the directions from HERE and painted our breakfast table "Hale Navy" by Benjamin Moore. I think it looks great! Of course it has to "cure" and then I am going to apply the wax but we love the way it turned out so far! Sunday was Church, errands, laundry, and that paint time again. (Now if we could just finish painting the rest of our house!)

I did finish my book club book..."Defending Jacob."
I liked the writing but the characters drove me crazy. They were pretty frustrating. Again, I thought it was well written but I really did not like any of the characters in it. Cannot wait for book club (aka wine club) and excited to see what book is next! (Of course I am starting another book tonight...but ya know what I mean!)

Beach, book, and stuff...

We had a great rest of the three day weekend and decided to hit the beach with my mom for Labor Day which the beach is always a good idea! I do love the beach!

I also finished another good book..."The Husband's Secret" by Liane Moriarty which is the same author of "What Alice Forgot..." I thought it was a good book. There are a lot of little story lines that all come together. It was the perfect beach read. Now I am on to our book club read which I have a week left to finish...
You know the guy who plays the oldest son in the movies "Cheaper by the Dozen?" Well look at Tom Welling now....

What?! I know...he was added to the celebrity boyfriend list for sure. :)
Well to leave you with some funnies of the day...

(MB-That last one is for you!)

A Big Saturday...

The Hoppe house split up Saturday morning with Jeff going fishing and Norah and I hitting the beach with some friends. The beach was beautiful...as we walked out, Norah said "This is like Hawaii!"...how lucky are we?

All the kids got along great and I wish I had taken some pics of them...but I forgot! Jeff and Keith had good luck fishing and caught a good many fish...keeping 8 (trout, flounder and red fish) which was made into a tasty dinner! Yum!

Then of course the big night concluded with some football action and action is was! Go Tigers!!
Norah and I sported some Clemson T-shirts...

And the game was pretty awesome! (Stole pic from friend Nancy's facebook page!) On a bad note, my mom got another Kidney Stone so her Saturday was not as fun as ours...we are hoping she has a better day today! Now it is only day 2 of the 3 day weekend! Off to Church... :)
